PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) is a popular general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited to web development. It was originally created by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1993; PHP stands for Personal Home Page, but it now stands for the recursive initialism PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. PHP code may be embedded into HTML code, or it can be used in combination with various web template systems, web content management systems, and web frameworks. PHP code is usually processed on a web server by a PHP interpreter implemented as a module, a daemon, or as a Common Gateway Interface (CGI) executable. Think of PHP as the engine behind your car—while invisible to the user, it powers everything under the hood.
