Authentication

Authentication is the process of verifying the identity of a user, device, or other entity in a computer system, often as a prerequisite to granting access to resources in a system. It’s like showing your ID before entering a restricted area to prove you’re allowed to be there. Common methods include entering a password, using a fingerprint, or scanning a face on devices that support biometric features.
